Proper Attire Guidelines - BRC

Guidelines for Proper Attire

for Evaluation & Follow-Up Sessions

The Brooklyn Runners Clinic@ Physio WellnessNYC LLC provides a unique and specialized service to our vibrant, local running community.

Comprehensive analysis requires observation of body structures including the upper extremities & torso, lower back/pelvic region, hip & gluteal region, lower extremities {upper leg (thigh – front, back, side & groin), knee, lower leg (front [“Shin”], back[Calf]}, ankle and feet.

Manual therapy techniques for injury rehabilitation, prevention, and wellness, require appropriate access to the same body structures.

To facilitate the maximum efficiency of each evaluation or treatment session, proper attire is imperative.

Attire worn for evaluation & follow-up sessions should permit optimum range of motion with regard to the therapeutic and training interventions prescribed.

Inappropriate attire may decrease the effective progress of the session, hence we request that each client adhere to the following guidelines for proper attire.

Recommended Attire:

  1. Running Shorts: with a Maximum length ranging from the lower margin of the upper 1/3 of the thigh to mid-thigh. (see diagram below)
  2. Polyester – Spandex blend under garments. Some of the popular running/athletic undergarments are comprised of blends similar to the following: 92% polyester/8% spandex or MESH: 85% polyester/15% spandex. (Please avoid wearing undergarmens that are TOO TIGHT and restrict range of motion.)

NOT Recommended:

  • Waist-to-lower thigh/slightly above the knee; Waist-to-knee; or longer shorts are HIGHLY DISCOURAGED.
  • “LONG shorts” will not permit efficient observation of the lower extremity during gait evaluation and therapeutic and training interventions.
  • "LONG shorts" may not accommodate optimum access to the hip joint and muscles of upper leg (the thigh and groin area) for manual therapy interventions and they may restrict effective range of motion.
  • Running Tights are HIGHLY DISCOURAGED for evaluations and follow-up sessions.
